Antony Costa has told a UK newspaper that he was left homeless and near to bankruptcy when boy band Blue split up in 2004.

Despite the singer earning £250,000 a month whilst on tour, he failed to manage his income, resulting in the star living on just £45 a week following the group’s split.

The 31-year-old admitted:

“It was a odd process. I went from earning £250,000 a month on a tour to £400 a month acting in Blood Brothers.”

'I wasn't saving any of the money along the way and I had champagne taste with lemonade money in the end'

“I wasn't saving any of my money along the way and I had champagne taste with lemonade money in the end. I thought Blue was going to last forever and any money I did have left at the end of Blue I wasn't advised on how to save it but I don't blame anyone for that.”

Struggling to keep up the £7000-a-month mortgage on his countryside pad, Costa eventually lost his home and was forced to alternate between his friend’s sofa and staying with his parents.

'You have to stand on your own two feet no matter how tough it gets'

Blue reformed

The I’m a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here contestant told how, in spite of his close bond with Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe, he did not turn to his former band mates. Antony revealed that his pride did not allow him to ask for help, adding “You have to stand on your own two feet in life no matter how tough it gets”.

Since reforming Blue, Antony has got his life back on track, and the band have been recording their new album Roulette, which is due for release on the 29 April.
