Beyonce was heartbroken to hear that 15-year-old Chelsea Lee James, whom she had the pleasure of meeting and even invited her out on stage at one of her shows, had died last week after 10 years of fighting cancer.

She was serenaded by Beyoncé on stage in 2009 and they met up again last year in James' home country.

The singer sent a moving note to the young girl's family, alongside a large bouquet of white roses, which read: “Donna, love and prayers to you and your family.

"Chelsea was a beautiful girl and I am so happy I was able to meet her.

“She touched my heart and I will never forget her.”

Referring to her daughter's relationship with Beyoncé, mother Donna James told the Newcastle Herald:

"There was a connection there for sure, there was something about the both of them. Chelsea passed away with a smile on her face, and I know that smile is even bigger now."
