As the frontman of rock band Nickelback, this was no mean feat for Kroger, who is often questioned about his famous wife.

‘It felt like having all your life sucked out of you’ Avril told People magazine.

‘I had complete weakness and fatigue. One night I tried to brush my teeth on the tour bus and couldn’t even stand.’

‘I thought I was dying.’

Lavigne was in between the Asian and South American legs of her world tour when she first showed symptoms of the bacterial infection, waking up drenched in sweat and feeling feverish.

Doctors were reluctant to test her for Lyme disease, but after months of her symptoms persisting, Avril was finally diagnosed.

Since October she has been recovering at home in Ontario, Canada, with the help from her mother and husband Chad.
