The famous drag act arrived in Austrian capital Vienna to a jubilant reception before dedicating her award to the fight for equality.
She told journalists at a press conference: ‘This will remain an issue for a long time and I fear I won't see the end of it in my lifetime. It will be my life's worth and I gladly take it on.’
She continued: ‘It was not just a victory for me but a victory for those people who believe in a future that can function without discrimination and is based on tolerance and respect.’
Conchita- who’s real name is Tom Neuwirth- won the famous competition in a landslide victory, with hosts declaring her a clear winner before all the votes were even finished being counted.
Upon winning her award, she told the crowd: ‘We are unity and we are unstoppable.’
Conchita explained to journalists in Vienna: ‘That was obviously meant for certain politicians whom we all know.’
The comments come following national outrage regarding Russia’s ‘anti-gay propaganda’ laws under President Vladimir Putin’s government.
Following Conchita’s win, a Russian politician spoke out against her victory, saying: ‘Fifty years ago the Soviet army occupied Austria. We made a mistake in freeing Austria. We should have stayed.’
