Ant McPartlin is reportedly planning to announce the sad news he is to split from his wife Lisa Armstrong in the New Year.
The news may not come as a surprise to some as reports of their strained marriage have hit the headlines recently.
Television host Ant has suffered a battle with prescription painkillers and alcohol and Lisa is said to have previously told friends she’s “emotionally drained” and “weighed down” with worry, according to The Sun on Sunday.
A source now tells the publication: “Ant wants to announce it in an official statement in the new year and both try to move on. But Lisa has not agreed to this yet.
“No one else is involved and they are still on friendly terms. But they are both devastated.”
Ant was recently in Australia presenting popular ITV reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! with Declan Donnelly.
Prior to that he was in rehab in America in a bid to deal with his addition issues.
But when he came back from the US he moved out of the multi-million pound home he shared with his wife in West London into a smaller rented pad in a bid to give the couple space.
But it seems things won’t be going back to how they were before if reports are to be believed - with Lisa telling pals she’s enjoying her newfound independence.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: “Ant has had a dreadful year, but Lisa has gone through hell too.
“The intense pressure of the situation left her emotionally drained and was really taking its toll. Back in October she was terribly stressed and worried and seemed to be carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.
“It was clear to those close to her she was brokenhearted. But it’s obvious she’s been so much happier since they’ve been living apart - especially when he flew to Australia to film I’m A Celebity.”
They added that being apart from Ant in November gave her time and confidence to live alone and work on her career.
