Andrea McLean has expressed her relief at being given the all-clear by doctors after undergoing a hysterectomy.

The Loose Women star decided to go ahead with the procedure to remove the womb after it was recommended by experts.

She has been open about suffering health problems in the past but did not go into detail about her exact reasons for undergoing the operation which took place in September last year.

Andrea took time off from her ITV show to recover but suffered complications which meant she was unable to walk for a while.

She excitedly told her Loose Women co-stars: “I got my all clear yesterday!”

However, things weren’t that straight forward as doctors discovered she faced other issues as a result having the operation.

Andrea, who has also suffered breast cancer scares in the past, said: “They discovered I had vasculitis. It’s when your immune system attacks your arteries and it can shut down your organs. Don’t Google it. But my kids didn’t know that!”

The evening before, she shared a video of herself working out on Twitter as she declared she was going to rebuild her strength.

She wrote: “FINALLY got my post-hysterectomy all clear last night! Back at the gym today; gonna get strong again.”

Andrea announced she would be taking time off from Loose Women in September and reassured fans that she would be alright.

She said at the time: “Just to let you know, don’t worry if you don’t see me for the next month or so. I’m actually going to be at home convalescing, as I’m having a hysterectomy tomorrow.”

After the procedure, she appeared on the programme via video link to thank viewers for their support, saying: “Hi everyone, I’m home now and I just wanted to say a big thank you for your lovely messages.

“I’m outside, I’m on my favourite place in the whole world which is my porch so I’m sure that’ll help me get better very quickly.

“I’ll be watching, see you soon!”
