Amanda Holden has denied dressing up her daughter, Lexi, 9, as a Pretty Woman's Julia Roberts for her school's 90s themed day and instead has insisted that she was portraying supermodel Cindy Crawford in her iconic red Versace dress.
A picture of Lexi in a tight red dress standing next to a piano was posted on the 43-year old's official Twitter account on Friday with the caption: '1990's day at Lexi's school today. Julia Roberts "Pretty Woman." But eight minutes later, the BGT judge removed the photograph after receiving a barrage of abuse from social media users who deemed the photo too inappropriate.
But now, the mum-of-two has explained that the photograph was mistakenly posted online by her husband of seven years, music producer Chris Hughes, who thought Lexi looked similar to Julia Roberts and shared her picture on Amanda's Twitter account. The former This Morning presenter has now released a statement which reads: "The truth is that Lexi went to school as Cindy Crawford for her school '90s Day - not Julia Roberts - as anyone who heard me yesterday at BGT - and indeed the teachers at Lexi's school - will confirm.
"However my husband thought she looked more like Julia Roberts, without any thought to any interpretation. Although given that she is a 9 year old girl it seems completely unbelievable and disturbing that anyone could or would put such an interpretation on it."
Amanda went on to explain: "Julia Roberts, is one of the most beautiful and iconic women in the world and so, as a proud father, he wanted to post the similarity on his own private Facebook account.
"He hit the wrong button and posted it on my twitter account- but removed it as soon as he realised.
Whilst the photograph prompted criticism from parents’ group Netmums who deemed the photograph as ‘inappropriate’ other users have defended her by suggesting she did ‘nothing wrong.’ Meanwhile, former BGT Judge Piers Morgan also took Twitter to show his support to Amanda. He wrote “Amanda’s a fantastic mother. Lay off her.”
