Charmed actress Alyssa Milano has expressed her upset and disappointment at Heathrow airport for taking away her baby’s milk.
The 42-year-old was passing through the airport’s security when staff asked her to dispose of breastmilk she was carrying to comply with rules on carrying liquids.
Taking to Twitter she wrote: “Heathrow’s security screening allows passengers to “carry a reasonable amount” of breastmilk.”
She continued: “Pumping on a plane is difficult. Small FYI.
“(1 of 2) @HeathrowAirport just took my pumped breast milk away. 10 ounces. Gone. Not okay.
“(2 of 2) They said they would let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me. Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me???”
“I would happily spread milk in different containers (which I travel with) wot comply to those liquid rules. Instead, milk was taken away with no discussion. Shampoo, lotions, etcetera were simply tested and handed back with no issue. Makes no sense at all.”
She later said: “Every ounce of milk I’m able to produce for my child is nothing short of a miracle and to watch that milk be thrown away without any regard for my baby, was heartbreaking.”
Heathrow responded to her tweets, writing from their official Twitter account: “Hi Alyssa. Unfortunately, without a baby present, the government requires all liquids in carry-ons to follow the 100ml rule.”
When Alyssa arrived at her destination, her breast pump appeared to be missing from her luggage.
The mum-of-two later tweeted: “I travel w/a portable Medela breast pump on the plane. Hope this is just a weird coincidence but my other breast pump that I checked w/ the rest of my baggage… is lost. Everything arrived at my final destination except my hospital grade breast pump. Filling out a lost baggage claim now.”
