‘We allow our dogs to die with dignity, but not our parents:’ Katie Hopkins furthers assisted suicide debate in latest rant

Katie Hopkins caused controversy (as ever) last week, when she claimed there was no point in visiting elderly relatives with dementia, and praised assisted suicide as a way out for people too sick to enjoy life.

But after facing a backlash on social media, Katie remains resolute in her opinions, writing on Twitter: 'We allow our dogs to die with dignity, but not our parents. I'm not a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here….when I am off with the fairies.'

Hopkins had previously tweeted that we 'extend life beyond the optimal point of departure' asking: 'What is the point in sucking life from the young?'

The TV personality added that if she were to suffer dementia in her old age, she would much rather she be allowed to die, or that her children 'take my cash & have a blast' rather than visit their mum who can't remember who they are.

And despite many being outraged by the 39-year-old's comments, her views are gaining support across Twitter.

'My parents died in agony alone, but dog died peacefully in my arms. I know what end I'd choose.'

Likewise @GustavsonJordan wrote: 'I agree with @KTHopkins on the assisted suicide debate. Everyone should have the right to choose when they want to depart.'
