Adam, who’s now a member of Big Reunion band, 5th Story, explained how, at the age of 16, he weighed just 6st, after struggling with the eating disorder.

The singer explained how an injury he picked up as young boy, playing rugby, left him unable to play sport.

“From the age of 13 all I wanted to be was a rugby player, but during a match I dislocated both of my shoulders and whilst I was in hospital having them pinned I picked up a virus that made me lose weight...and it also meant I couldn't play rugby again,” Adam revealed.

“I was having to eat a lot to get my weight back up after the virus and one day I was just so focused on the eating and not thinking about anything, and when I stood up because I'd eaten so much, I was physically sick.”

The 35 year old continued to explain, while speaking on This Morning, how his bulimia soon spiralled out of control.

And sadly, he revealed that due to the lack of awareness at the time, he found himself alone in his battle.

He said: "My school had never had a case of a boy having an eating disorder.

“Everybody knew, but they didn't know how to deal with it. And I felt so embarrassed to say anything, I was scared that nobody else understood.”

Adam hopes by speaking out, he'll encourage other male sufferers to seek help

But now, the ex-Coronation Street actor hopes by speaking out, he’ll encourage other men, suffering from bulimia, to seek help.

“One of the things I want to get people to realise is that eating disorders are exactly the same as any other mental health issue,” he explained.

“I am fine now. I got over the physical side of being sick within eighteen months. But the mental side of it which comes with it.

“I always describe it as Pandora's box ...it's never completely shut and it took me a long time, until I was 30 to look myself in the mirror and know who I was."
