Eyecare is undoubtedly one of the most important steps in our skincare regimes for warding off premature fine lines and wrinkles. From eye serums to eye cream, there's so much to choose from on the market.
But as with any beauty product, knowing what to really look for can help you get the best results. This is especially true of eye products, which many of us slap on in the wrong areas or with the wrong method.
Luckily for us though, if there's one person that can point us in the right direction, it's RHOC Hanna Kinsella's husband, and Dr Kinsella Skin founder, Dr Martin Kinsella.
After his brand's recent release of the Dr Kinsella CBD Skin Eye Serum{
How should we apply eye cream?
Since the skin around our eyes is the most delicate area on our face, it's important that we are gentle when applying products. Not only that, but because of its fragility, it's one of the first places to show signs of ageing,
Dr Kinsella tells Closer, "Using your ring finger is ideal because it's the weakest finger and so it means you won’t apply too much pressure.
"Using a pea-sized amount, or half a pump of Dr Kinsella CBD Skin Eye Serum, start from the inside of the face below the eyes, by the nose, and using gently dab the cream onto the skin, being careful not to get too close to the eyeball.
"Work outwards towards the outside of the face and then leave it for a couple of minutes to soak in before applying the rest of your skincare products"
Should you put eye cream on your eyelids?
Contrary to popular belief, eye cream and serum should just be applied around the eyelid area.
"It’s generally not recommended that you apply eye cream directly onto your eyelids in order to avoid potential irritation if it gets into the eyes", says Dr Martin Kinsella.
Are you supposed to put eye cream on, before, or after moisturiser?
If you're like us and have been putting eye cream on after your facial moisturiser, you might want to rethink your routine.
"It’s best to apply your eye cream first and then give it a couple of minutes to absorb before applying moisturiser onto the rest of the face", says Dr Martin Kinsella.
The more you know.
What’s the best ingredient for eye cream?
"Vitamin C may boost skin’s collagen production to give a firmer, more plump skin and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
"CBD, or cannabidiol, is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis. While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, a cousin of marijuana, or manufactured in a laboratory.
"CBD helps reduce time of healing and improves the skin’s defence mechanism by boosting its ability to regenerate" says Dr Martin Kinsella.
