Brazilian model Barbara Fialho swears by the treatment, known as velaterapia, which burns off split ends with an open flame.

The Victoria’s Secret model said in a recent interview that she used the treatment to keep her hair smooth instead of straightening treatments.

‘If I did I would lose all my hair!’ she said. ‘They’re very strong.’

Barbara Fialho also claims that fellow Victoria’s Secret models Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana.

Vogue Brazil editor Victoria Ceridono experimented with the treatment, and told a UK fashion website: ‘It's unbelievable. You don't get shorter hair, but if you touch the treated side it feels so much smoother and healthier!’

The treatment started in Brazil

The treatment is currently offered at Laces Hair Salon in Sao Paulo, but it won’t be long until the Brazilian hair care trend makes its way over here.

The salon’s website describes the treatment as using an open flame that ‘cauterises the hair, leaving behind a passage of nutrients to its interior, removes split ends and the impermeability of the hair caused by brushing and other chemicals.’
