Using a varying palette of colours, the idea is to highlight and shade your face to create a perfectly sculpted effect.
The results are incredible, and if you don’t believe us, just take a look at some of our favourite examples of the technique below.

So how can you achieve this high-maintenance look? First things first, make sure you’ve got enough time to try this out - this is not one for those of use who take five minutes to throw on some mascara in the morning - it’s going to take some attention to detail.
1.) Start with concealing under your eyes. Take a yellow based concealer that is lighter than your skin colour and draw in a triangular shape under your eyes. This is actually more effective than doing the half moon shape that many of us employ when getting rid of dark circles.
2.) While you still have this colour out, you also want to draw a square on your chin, down the length of your nose and in the centre of your foreahed. You can also use it directly under brows to help lift the eyes.
3.) Use a pink or red (depending on your colouring) blusher and apply in circles to the rose’s of your cheeks. Then mix the pink with concealer for a more muted pale pink colour, which you should apply around your mouth area. The aim of this is to counteract any shadows that naturally occur in that region.
4.) Now for the shading. Using a foundation colour darker than your skin colour, you want to draw lines on the sides of your nose, under your cheekbones and at the sides of your forehead. You can also place a line just under your lips and on the very tip of your nose, while this colour on the eyelids and just below the lighter colour will create a beautiful effect.
5.) Instagram Bella De Lune who first brought Clown Contouring to our attention, used a combination of smaller concealer brushes, a larger contour/stipler brush and a beauty blender in order to blend all these colours into one another to create her make up look. She starts using the smaller brush to apply the colours to their dedicated areas before using a beauty blender to push the colours into the skin. After this, she uses a larger brush (we prefer stipler or contour brush) to really blend the colours in effectively.
