Research has found how often you're meant to buy a new hairbrush - and it is NOT what we were expecting...

Yep, BlueGuard have done a bit of digging around how long everyday items are supposed to last us before we chuck them out and get new ones in - and we've got to say, we're pretty stunned by all this.

The company have found out the durability of seven everyday household objects including socks, bras and hairbrushes.

We'll start with the one we found most disturbing - the hairbrush.

Unless you're a super-clean and tidy person, you'll probably have had the same hairbrush for the past few years.

Can you even remember the last time you actually bought a hairbrush? No, neither can we.

But apparently, we've been living our lives COMPLETELY wrong.

According to the research, we should be changing up our hairbrush every six to 12 months.

Erm, back up - every SIX MONTHS TO A YEAR?!

We don't know about you, but we have WAY more important things to buy than a sodding hairbrush once a year.

Apparently, if the bristles start to separate or the base become cracked, it can catch hair and cause damage or split ends.

Hmm. We're not convinced.

So what else was on the list, we hear you ask.

WELL.

We should supposedly chuck out our bras every six to eight months, as the washing machine will cause the padding to lose its shape. We've also been told that the elastic won't last much longer than a year before it starts to become unsupportive.

We guess that is the whole point of a bra... But still, that seems WAY too soon to swap.

Other underwear should supposedly last no longer than six months, and socks should be ready to chuck after a year.

Another shocker was the humble toothbrush - did you know you're supposed to replace them every THREE MONTHS?!

And bath towels should be chucked after one year... We DEFINITELY need to do home shopping after reading this!

Thankfully, the last item mentioned was your mattress, which you're allowed to keep for 10 years.

GOOD. Those things are blimmin' expensive.

How often do you change these household items? Do you agree with these refresh rates? Let us know over on Facebook and Twitter.
