We know, we were shocked too.

When a friend recommended I try rosehip oil as a makeup remover, I scoffed, quite frankly. I struggled enough removing waterproof mascara with micellar water and a (very worn-down) flannel - how on earth was rosehip oil, usually used as a face serum, going to help? Well, consider my life changed because I'll never use anything else to remove my make-up now.

As written by beauty experts Curology, rosehip oil, made from "a fruit that grows on certain rose shrubs," is "non-comedogenic, which means it doesn’t tend to cause breakouts." It can also be used to help remove makeup and excess sebum (the oil on your skin that your body naturally produces).

After a long day of caked-on makeup, I lather up my rosehip oil in my hands (any old rosehip oil will do, they function similarly when it comes to this step), rub it into my face for around 30 seconds, and wash up with a flannel and warm water.

And that's it. That's all you need to do. And it removes everything. Waterproof mascara, eyeliner, lipstick - all gone. Disappeared. All that is left is nourished, dewy skin. You can leave it as is if you have dry skin, but if you're oil-prone, you can finish off by double cleansing with a foaming cleanser.

Which skin type benefits most from using rosehip oil as a makeup remover?

If you use rosehip oil as a makeup remover, even after washing it off along with your foundation, the multitude of benefits this product brings will still be absorbed by your skin when rubbing in. Rosehip oil is indeed beneficial for all skin types, but especially for those who suffer from acne.

It "helps to smooth the appearance of acne and acne scars, at the same time as softening and nourishing the skin,” says Antipodes founder, Elizabeth Barbalich. It’s lightweight and has a high concentration of omega-6 fatty acids (also known as linoleic acid), which makes it particularly helpful for those with acne-prone skin, as deficiency of linoleic acid is linked to the development of acne. According to Elizabeth, this product "also helps to strengthen the skin barrier."
