The semi-finalists fought hard to earn a place in the final. In a Beyonce versus Elton John themed extravaganza, the contestants were encouraged to prove their versatility in order to keep their place in the competition.
Luke Friend opened the show with a folksy rendition of ‘Best Thing I Never Had.’ The judges were pleased with his performance, all but Nicole who compared the messy haired singer to One Direction. He toned things down for his second number, belting out ‘Something in the Way You Look Tonight.’
Nicholas McDonald gave a nervy performance of ‘Halo’ and his voice cracked noticeably before started shedding tears onstage. With some encouragement he managed to bounce back in his second performance, singing Elton John’s ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.’
Rough Copy performed ‘Survivor’ and ‘Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word’ and were met with mixed comments from the judges: Nicole loved them whereas Louis felt that they were trying too hard and should ‘hold back.’
Sam Bailey stole the show with her renditions of ‘Halo’ and an emotional performance of Elton John’s biggest selling single ‘Candle in the Wind.’ She was met with a standing ovation as Sharon was moved to tears, managing to choke out a little ‘thank you’ to her mentee.
