Eve Miller told how on Monday 6th June 1988, she received the call telling her she was finally going to get the life-saving transplants she needed.
Writing on her blog, Eve said: “Back in 1988, we were told little about our donor families and writing/contact was not encouraged.
“I think it is has now common practise for the recipient to write initially and say thank you. ‘Thank you’ is probably the biggest understatement of the century.”
In the post, Eve revealed that she believes her donor was a 10-year-old boy from Reading who passed away after school on the day she got the call.
Although she hopes to now find the mother of the boy to thank her in person, Eve has written a heartwarming letter to her to tell her just how grateful she is for the transplant.
She wrote:
Eve included every tiny piece of information she knows about her donor and his mother in the hopes of finding her. She added: “I am keen to trace my donor family - even if they don't want to write/meet, I'd love them to know how grateful I am and how great things have been, that the operation was a success and that we are still ok - both of us.”
