A mother-of-two has bravely spoken out about her shock after discovering her husband had been drugging and raping her in her sleep.
Mandy Boardman wrote an emotional essay for Time magazine following comments from American entrepreneur Donald Trump’s lawyer.
He claimed that ‘you can’t rape you spouse,’ a claim which is clearly refuted by most men and women, particularly victims of rape.
Mandy explained her experiences in the first hand account, writing: “One night, I woke up to my husband standing over me with something strange in one hand and a flashlight, shining in my face, with the other. As he scurried away he tried to hide something under the mattress.”
Mandy soon discovered that her husband was hiding a white liquid which he was using to drug her and make her unconscious. He would then rape her whilst she was unresponsive.
She wrote: “How did I not know this was happening to me? How did I not wake up when this was going on? I couldn’t wake up! I had been drugged with the white cloudy liquid that my husband administered to me countless times before. He would give me such a large amount of the drug that I would pass out and not wake up, for any reason.”
Mandy soon video evidence that her disturbed husband had taken of her during the attacks.
"I found something on that phone that would change my life forever… a video taken by my husband of him having sex with me while I was passed out cold. There were three videos in total and in each one I looked like I was dead. I panicked.”
The turning point came when Mandy felt he could be a danger to her young son and daughter.
“If he could do something that horrific and horrible to his own wife, then he could do it to anyone, including my daughter.”
Mandy went to the police and he was arrested for his crimes.
“I had to fight him in the criminal court for his disgusting acts toward me and also in civil court over my children.”
Her husband was convicted of rape and criminal deviant misconduct after a court battle lasting three years. Shockingly, he was not sent to prison but instead put under house arrest.
He later violated his house arrest, meaning he was then sentenced to five years in prison.
