WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES
Jenn Alter, 36, was fed up of seeing ‘sexualised’ images relating to breast cancer awareness and was growing frustrated that other woman couldn’t see the horrific truth about the disease.
Jenn- who hails from Saint Louis in Missouri- uploaded graphic images of her breasts after painful surgeries and radiation treatment to show how her body had suffered following her diagnosis.
She wrote alongside the pictures: "Here's your f**king breast cancer awareness. This was during my 35-day radiation treatment back in 2013. Breast cancer isn't sexy. It's not about saving the boobies.
“It's not about no bra day, which is really just an excuse for women to post sexy pics of their nipples pressing through their clothes. It's scars, nausea, pain, bald heads, burnt skin and broken hearts. If this doesn't make you "aware" then I don't know what will. Does it make you feel uncomfortable? It should."
Speaking to the Mail Online, Jenn said: "I made the post because I wanted people to know that breast cancer isn't about "saving the boobies." In fact, many women end up losing theirs to try and stay alive."
“This disease has been sexualised in order to supposedly raise awareness, and, because of that, society is able to ignore the brutal, ugly truth of breast cancer and breast cancer treatment. I wanted to show that ugly side.”
Jenn is thankfully in remission, but her message appears to be loud and clear.
The post has been shared hundreds of times online, spreading awareness of the disease in the most honest way possible.
