According to the Hurriyet Daily News, Çilem Doğan told police that her husband had abused her throughout their marriage.
She claims that he even beat her in hospital when she was giving birth to their daughter.
She alleges that one day he told her to pack her bags, as he was planning on taking her to the city.
When she asked why, he allegedly said that he was planning on pimping her out as a prostitute to make money.
She reportedly said: “When I opposed, he beat me. He pushed me on the bed and the pistol under the pillow came into my mind.
“I grabbed it and shot him repeatedly.”
She added: “Then I took my daughter and left the home.”
The mother-of-one allegedly told investigators that she did what she had to do, insisting: “Will women always die? Let some men die too.
"I killed him for my honour.”
Following photographs of Doğan flashing a thumbs up as she entered jail, Twitter has been flooded with messages of support for her.
Doğan stands accused of murder under heavy duress.
Hurriyet Daily News reports that over 100 women have been killed by men in 2015 alone.
