Captain Dave Anderson sent a camera on a drone to capture the dolphins journey, and they are soon joined by the whale and her offspring.
He said: 'This is the most beautiful and compelling five minute video I have ever put together.'
Explaining: 'I learned so much about these whales and dolphins from this drone footage that it feels like I have entered a new dimension. I have not been this excited about a new technology since we built our underwater viewing pods on our whale watching boat. Drones are going to change how we view the animal world. Wow!'
Like a herd of wild horses, the pod of about 1,000 Common Dolphins were seen off the coast of Dana Point, California.
There was no observable cause for the dolphin 'stampede' but Captain Dave was certainly pleased he was there to view it.
Southern California has the greatest density of dolphins per square mile than anywhere else on earth, which makes Dana Point a perfect place to watch them from.
