Speaking with Closer Online, Richard Chapman, spokesman for The Weather Network, explained that the beginning of the week is set to be damp and miserable.

Which, to be honest, isn’t all too much of a surprise, considering all the bad weather we’ve had to deal with this year.

But he also delivered some VERY good news; it’s going to be bright, and fair, and downright beautiful towards the end of the week.

He told us: “We’ll head into a cool day for Tuesday as low pressure passes east. This brings early outbreaks of rain across the Midlands, southern and eastern England, these tending to turn more showery into the afternoon with a focus on eastern England. A second area of rain affects the far north and east of Scotland as well as northeast coasts of England, lasting well into the afternoon. The best of any sunnier spells over western Scotland and Ireland. Tops at 12 to 16C.

"Wednesday is likely to be a drier and brighter day over much of England and Wales as well as eastern Scotland. Some sunny spells to come here as well.

"Thursday brings low pressure to western Scotland and a day of sunshine and showers for many. The showers heaviest and most frequent in western Scotland, western England, Wales and Ireland where some could be torrential as well as thundery. Fewer heavy showers east and south, although still plenty of them around.”

He added: “Friday is likely to have heavy showers over Scotland and northern England as well as Northern Ireland. Southern England and Wales have fewer showers and some sunny spells too.

"Some early signs of higher pressure building for the weekend bringing fair weather, sunny skies but some morning mist and fog, as well as chilly nights.

"But that's a long way off!"

Roll on the end of the week, we say - we’re definitely fair weather friends!
