"Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day..."
With all that heavy rain, it’s felt more like November than August this week - but it looks as if things are going to get better.
If only for the weekend.
Chris Burton, Meteorologist at The Weather Network, told us: “An area of heavy rain will push eastwards across the UK through today, with the risk of further downpours in places.
“By the end of today, some places will have seen a further 25mm of rain (1in), perhaps even more than this if any thundery downpours develop.
“As the rain clears away to the east later on Friday, it will allow much drier and fresher conditions to move in off the Atlantic for the weekend.
“Bar one or two showers, many will have a dry and fine weekend with sunny spells – although temperatures won’t be anything special for the time of year with max temps in the mid to high teens generally, with some rather chilly nights too.”
However, while the weekend may be dry, it’s going to be back to soggy business as usual come next week.
He said: “The area of high pressure which will give us a settled weekend may drift away for a time early next week, bringing an increased risk of showers or longer spells of rain.”
Hmm.
So we won’t pack away our umbrellas just yet then…
