Over the next few days, British weather is set to take a turn for the worse.

Forecasters and weather experts warn that the UK is set to experience an ‘Arctic blast’, plummeting temperatures into the sub-zeros.

Heavy rain across the country is forecast for tomorrow, with severe showers expected to turn into snow in the north by Friday.

Up to 2ft of snow may settle in the Scottish Highlands, where temperatures are expected to drop to as low as -10C.

Widespread frosts and flurries of snow are also reportedly headed further south as the weekend approaches.

A spokesperson for The Met Office told The Mirror:

"The snow is going to hit the north of Scotland by the end of this week.

"By next week it will spread down the country. It may even fall on higher ground as far south as the Pennines."

A forecaster for The Weather Channel, Leon Brown, said: “There’s some proper winter weather on the way, so get the de-icer ready.”

Brr! At least you've now got an excuse to buy a new winter coat.
