The burger chain has applied for drinks licences at four branches in the UK to trial the controversial addition to its menu, and intends to run it across all 654 branches if successful.
If the drinks licences are accepted, the first branches to see the introduction of beer brands in plastic cups are its Newcastle, Staffs., Blackpool, Lancs., Hull, East Yorks, Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk establishments.
They would be able to sell the alcohol from 10am until 11pm, as long as the beverages are consumed on the premises.
Speaking about the proposal, a company spokeswoman for the UK said:
"We're just catching up with the rest of the world really.”
However competitor McDonald’s won’t be doing the same.
Despite selling alcohol in a selection of its European branches, they believe their UK customer base is too family-friendly to be interested in the introduction of alcohol to their menu.
They state on their UK website:"It isn't something that we have experienced customer demand for or something that fits with the family-friendly focus of our restaurants in the UK.”
