Footage of Lana Janet Watmough, 21, and Layni Gloria Cameron, 17, kicking and spitting at 77-year-old Paul Buttigieg on an Australian bus has gone viral.

The pair were charged yesterday with serious assault and public nuisance, with Ms. Watmough being granted bail and Ms. Cameron remaining in custody.

At least one of the women are believed to have racially abused Maltese Mr. Buttigieg, before reportedly turning on a mother with a pram and hurling abuse at her.

Mr. Buttigieg told an Australian news reporter: “They were swearing down the back and they finished up near me, and they were swearing, and I just said, ‘would you mind stop swearing’ – bang and they hit me.”

The footage of the two women attacking Mr. Buttigieg, filmed by a 13-year-old girl, has caused outrage and public demand for them to be convicted.

Ms. Watmough, cousin of Australian rugby league footballer Anthony Watmough, and Ms. Cameron have been receiving death threats following the footage being released.
