Gina Van Dort and her husband Chris Dyer were shot by AK47 rounds as they ran into Imperial Marhaba hotel garden during last week's terrifying attack in Tunisia.

Tragically Chris was shot dead, but severely injured Gina refused to let go of her husband of two years.

And when the 30-year-old came around from surgery, the extent of her facial injuries meant she was unable to speak.

Doctors told how on waking up from surgery, Gina immediately wrote a note to nurses begging for her wedding ring back.

Describing the moment she found her at the hotel, Dr Hajer Kraiem said: ‘Her husband was dead.

'I went to the hotel and there were three victims dead and then I saw Gina, she was hugging her husband.

'She didn’t want to leave him. When we tried to bring her [to the ambulance] she held tighter. Maybe she didn’t know he was dead.

‘She had major facial trauma and she couldn’t speak. She was conscious [but] she couldn’t speak, [the sound] was incomprehensible.’

Sadly Gina has lost her left eye, but she is currently undergoing facial reconstructive surgery and is said to be in a stable condition.
