Breanna Mitchell was on a trip to the eerie location of the Nazi death camp when she decided to take a selfie, cracking a wide grin before taking the snap.

The teenager, who recently graduated from high school, captioned the photo with: “Selfie in the Auschwitz concentration camp.”

Breanna was visiting the site after studying the holocaust with her dad.

Her dad passed away last year before he was able to make the trip.

After Breanna uploaded the photo onto Twitter, the snap was retweeted over 2000 times and many Twitter users slammed the teenager for the taking a light hearted selfie at the sombre location.

Breanna hit back, writing: “Omg I wish people would quit tweeting to, quoting, retweeting, and favoriting my picture of my smiley in Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Like apparently is such a big deal that I smiled. Good Lord.”

She added: “That trip actually meant something to me and I was happy about it.”

COULD THIS BE THE MOST STUPID FACEBOOK STATUS EVER?

This did nothing to silence Twitter users, with one follower writing: “How can you be happy and smile in this pic? Do you not understand the horrors and murders that happened here?”

Another added: “My relatives died at Auschwitz, can I smile at your dad's death?”

Do you think Breanna’s selfie was out of order?
