Shahena Uddin, 19, was found dead by paramedics in a bathroom at her family home in Watford last October.
A pathologist report found she had choked on her own vomit, with prosecutor Stuart Trimmer telling jurors at St Albans Crown Court she had been 'repeatedly struck to her body with a weapon or implement'.
“Shahena had been badly beaten in the home in the hours before the 999 call. There was a good deal of evidence of head injury. Both sides of her head had been beaten."
The BBC reported Shahena's soiled clothing was found in bin bags outside, covered with vomit and blood stains.
Trimmer told the court household punishments and beatings were 'commonplace', and Shahena was made to 'lick the toilet bowl and eat paper', as well as being 'banned from using the lavatory'.
“Shahena was a vulnerable young person. She suffered abuse and violence at the hands of her own family. The regime of brutality and extreme violence was so deeply embedded and feared, that she could not risk the results of any form of complaint to the outside world," said Mr Trimmer.
Brother Suhail Uddin, 35, and his 32-year-old wife Salma Begum became the legal guardians of Shahena and her two sisters in 2010, and have pleaded not guilty to her murder.
Brothers Tohel, 24, Jewell, 27, 33-year-old Jhuhal and his 25-year-old wife Laila, along with 22-year-old sister Rehena Uddindeny deny causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult.
The trial is ongoing.
