Speaking to KPLC-TV, Sheriff Ron Johnson explained that police received a report that a baby was alone on the beach at 10:16 Tuesday morning.

They rushed to the scene, where the found an empty Ford Explorer parked close to the shore with the motor running.

And, sitting two miles away from the vehicle, was a one-year-old girl.

She was sunburnt and covered in mosquito bites.

Sheriff Johnson said that the baby girl’s parents were found hours later - and several miles from where the child was sitting.

“Cody and Monique Bourgeois appeared to be jogging in the nude,” he said.

He also reported that it is suspected the couple were on drugs at the time.

The parents were arrested and charged with child desertion and obscenity, KATC-TV reported.

Charges of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile are also being considered.

Child protective services have also been called to investigate the incident.
