Channel 4 documentary ‘The Paedophile Hunter’ has won a British Academy Film Television Award during last night’s glittering ceremony.
The massively successful film beat four nominees, winning the Single Documentary statuette.
The film focuses on the work of Stinson Hunter and his team, who pose online as underage girls and boys in order to catch sexual predators.
Stinson has a massive following due to the nature- and high success rate- of his work, but the film also showed members of the police warning against his method. Despite this, Stinson continues with his work and making regular video updates.
Dad-of-one Stinson was understandably delighted with his win, writing on Instagram: “We won the big #BAFTA - best single documentary. Thank you Dan Reed, Tom Costello, Stubbsy, Grime and everyone else who helped create such an important piece of work. Thank you!”
He then wrote to his followers on Facebook: “The Paedophile Hunter has just won the Television BAFTA for best single documentary - words cannot express how blown away I am right now, to go from a little bedroom in Nuneaton where this first started to having a documentary made about it to then be recognised by awards people is mind blowing.
“The important thing to remember here is that with each award and with each time this gets mentioned in the press more and more people are wakening up to what is exactly happening online and that's why I shout off all the time and that's why every single chance I get I will get in the papers - because that is what this has ALWAYS been about, not catching people, not getting them locked up, this is about shoving the problem in people's face's and not letting up until someone actually listens.
“People criticise me for being in the press or doing this that and the other but my reasons are for exactly the reason I started this - to get people talking.
“Dislike me all you want, dislike what I do all you want but there's one thing no-one can deny - I got people talking.
“Thank you everyone who was involved in the making of the film - you all helped create something that is going to not only save lives but change lives.”
