The cameraman was interviewing a Glasgow busker, known as Melo, when drunk Francis Muir approached the street entertainer and started racially abusing him.
He was then joined by his friend, who attempted to physically attack the busker before falling down stairs in a drunken stupor.
Francis’ accomplice cannot be identified due to legal reasons.
Francis then starts ranting: ‘What about the f****** British or the homeless? You are taking the f****** p***. You are milking our country for thousands, ya f****** black b******.’
He shockingly continues: 'How much do you make sitting here busking every f***** day? You’re making thousands.’
Francis then rages: ‘I pay taxes every f****** month. Hundreds of pounds to keep you in the f****** country.’
Melo responds with: ‘I am black and proud,’ before attempting to defend himself with the trolley used to transport his instruments.
Cameras then captured Francis being arrested, and he was consequently jailed for 4 months, both for the racist attack on Melo and a previous attack on an Asian police officer.
He allegedly told The Daily Record ‘I’m not a racist,’ and has reportedly been struggling to find a job following his release from prison.
Muir reportedly says he realises his behaviour was ’shameful’ and claims he was in a ‘bad place’ at the time of the attack as he had just split from his wife of 6 years.
He reportedly said: ‘I’ve done my time and I’m ashamed of what I did. I will regret it for the rest of my life.’
Melo revealed to the documentary makers that he is subject to racial abuse on a regular basis, saying: ‘I am feeling sick. Since ’98 I have been abused every day. That’s why you feel like leaving. Where I will go? I don’t know. But I would be messing up everything because of other people, so no way – it’s not happening.’
MSP Graeme Pearson said about the incident: ‘We need to come to terms with what is happening on our streets and change it.’
In the comments below a piece written by The Daily Record, reader Paul wrote: ‘Mr. Muir, in light of the busker revealing that he didn't claim the benefits you accused him of. I was wondering, do you know how much your incarceration cost the British taxpayer?’
