Tens of thousands of dogs have been stolen from homes across Vietnam, after the government banned dog meat from being imported.
The recent crime wave has led to violent clashes, with three teenage boys killed by thieves after they tried to stop their dogs being snatched.
Father of one of the victims, Lao Huynh, told Channel 4:
'He loved his dog. Because dogs like this one are like human beings. That’s why young people are so angry and want to chase the thieves.
‘I didn’t think they would kill him, just injure him. But they shot him intentionally in the temple.’
Sadly the trade is a lucrative one, with the thieves said to be making up to £60 a night, with one telling reporters he had stolen more than 3000 in seven years.
Unreported World: Vietnam’s Dog-Snatchers will be shown Friday on Channel 4 at 7.30pm.
