Justin Reynolds, the little boy's father, told KOB-TV that he and his girlfriend, Monique Villescas, were getting ready to order pizza when the toddler fired the shot.
"He was shocked and crying. It was traumatising"
He explained: "It was like if I was to get up shake your hand and sat back down. That's how fast it happened.
"All of a sudden we heard a gun go off and the next minute I realised my girlfriend was bleeding.
"Then, I sat down and realised I was shot, too."
Justin quickly dialled 911 and grabbed some towels to try to stop her bleeding.
He said: "I was more worried about my girlfriend than myself and anything else that was going on.
"And my son because I didn't know if he had shot himself or not. He was shocked and crying. It was traumatising."
Apparently the toddler had been reaching for an iPad but, instead, found a loaded handgun.
After accidentally firing the gun, a bullet struck his father in the buttock, before hitting his mother - who is eight months pregnant - in the shoulder.
The little bogy's 2-year-old sister was also in the room, but was thankfully not hurt.
Police have said, while the mother was hospitalised following the accident, her injuries are not life-threatening.
A police spokesman said: "This case will be forwarded to the DA's office and pending charges of felony criminal negligence will be reviewed on both parents."
