Russian Olympic skier paralysed in horrific accident: ‘I can’t feel anything form the waist down.’

Glamorous Olympic skier Maria Komissarova has revealed her devastation after breaking her spine during the Sochi Olympic games on February 15th.

The 23-year-old brunette says she can't feel anything below her belly-button, after fracturing the 12th dorsal vertebrae in her lower-middle back.

She was practising a series of jumps in preparation for the live run when she fell badly.

Writing from her Instagram this week, Maria said: 'I do not feel my body lower than my belly button.'

'But I am strong and I know that someday I will stand on my legs.'

'If it weren't for Alex I would probably have gone mad…he hasn't left my side, putting all his energy into looking after me.'

She signed off: 'our life goes on.'

The freestyle skier was operated on immediately after the incident two weeks ago - having a metal rod inserted in to her spine in the hope to regain feeling in her legs.

Despite further operations it seems that the skier has not regained sensation in the lower half of her body, but she remains positive she

will stand again.

Her fans have sent their well wishes to the popular sportswomen, who was the pin up for the Russian Olympic skiing team.
