The first day at school is a massive landmark for young children, and no child reacts to it in the same way.
Some little ones are bit anxious, others cry and some can barely contain their excitement about heading off to school for the first time.
But when one reporter interviewed parents and children, she managed to accidentally trigger some overwhelming emotions in one little boy.
KTLA’s Courtney Friel was chatting to pre-kindergarten pupil Andrew Macias as he arrived at school for the first time.
She asked him: ‘Are you going to miss your mom?’
Little Andrew at first laughed and said: ‘No!’
But within moments his confident front fell to pieces as his lip began to wobble.
Poor little Andrew then burst into tears on camera!
Courtney shared the clip on her own Instagram page, writing: "This breaks my heart and now I'm anxious about sending my kids to school! He was trying to be so brave!"
Watch the heartbreaking footage below.
We hope he got a hug and bravely went on to have a great first day!
