A 14-year-old boy has stunned Doctors by starting his recovery - despite being given less than two months to live.

At aged 10 Deryn Blackwell was diagnosed with leukamemia, and as if this wasn't enough, was then diagnosed with Langerhans Cells Sarcoma two years later.

After his fourth failed bone marrow transplant, Deryn and his family were told that he only had 50 days to live, but despite that deadline being passed he has begun to get better.

Deryn is truly one of a kind, being the only person in the world to suffer from the two forms of cancer at once.

In the first week of December 2013 the family were told the devastating news that the fourth transplant had failed and that he would now deteriorate, and they begun planning his funeral.

Heartbreakingly, before he began to gain strength, Deryn had accepted his fate, describing it as 'the best time of your life - you just accept it.'

His mother, Callie Blackwell, 33, said he had been so ill that 'he was looking forward to dying.'

'He kept asking when is it going to happen - he wanted to escape from everyone poking him all the time. He was sick of being dictated to.'

And despite the family being pleased he is showing some signs of recovery, his mother said this has now made everything uncertain all over again.

Doctors believe Deryn's body has started to produce white blood cells, meaning he hasn't needed the blood transfusions he usually does.

'Essentially, the bone marrow transplant is doing what it should be doing,' said his mother.

So confident are Doctor's that Deryn is on the mend that he is booked to have his central line removed from his chest; 'the doctor's way of saying "it's over,"' according to Callie.

Deryn has befriended several famous faces since becoming ill, with Russell Howard, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost regularly getting in contact or coming to see him.

'Things like that have really motivated him. They have given him something to look forward to.'
