But many reacted angrily to this move, saying it sent the wrong message to society.
Now the club have revoked the 25-year-old's right to use their facilities, saying they had 'responsibilities to a fine and proud club,' and also to Sheffield as a city.
TV presenter Charlie Webster and Olympian Jessica Ennis-Hill removed their endorsement of the club after Sheffield let Ched train with them.
Evans was given a five year sentence in 2012 after he was found guilty of raping a 19-year-old.
