Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, 43, started working for Kate Middleton (aka the Duchess of Cambridge) and Prince William a few weeks ago as the royal nanny for Prince George.

“Maria Teresa might like to see it removed from the public arena but there’s absolutely nothing she can do about it”

However Maria has been found on a town hall’s “name and shame” list in her homeland Spain for failing to pay its equivalent of council tax.

According to The Mirror, the royal nanny "was threatened with a visit from debt collectors unless she paid the money she owed, as well as a fine and interest".

However it is worth pointing out that Maria appeared on the register of shame in May 2007 and July 008 for two years' non-payment - and that she has since settled the debt.

A source close to her explained: “She’s resolved the situation and owes no money to the council now.

“But it’s a major source of embarrassment to her that her name is still on a public debtors’ list which is just a click of a mouse away.

Despite this past misdemeanour, Maria appears to be the ultimate Mary Poppins; she trained at the prestigious nanny school, Norland College, in Somerset, is single and is wedded to her job.

No wonder Kensington Palace said last night that they had no comment to make on the tax, other than to reiterate that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “are delighted Maria chose to join the household”.
