A shocking study by The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has found that there 400,000 more children living in poverty than there were four years ago.
The report undertaken by the Foundation, a charity that funds research and development, also found that poverty levels have started rising for the first time in 20 years.
According to the Foundation, there are 14 million people living in the UK at the moment - over one in five of the population - made up of 8 million working-age adults, 4 million children and 1.9 million pensioners.

In the last four years, there has been an increase of 400,000 more children living in poverty, and 300,000 more pensioners.
The JRF put this dramatic rise down to three things - they have found that rising levels of employment are no longer having any effect on poverty, rental prices in homes are increasing, and state support for people on low incomes is falling.
The report was released one day after Alan Milburn, head of the Social Mobility Commission, resigned in protest as he branded the government "Brexit-obsessed" and berated their lack of progress towards a "fairer Britain".

Chief Executive of the JRF Campbell Robb said: "These worrying figures suggest that we are at a turning point in our fight against poverty.
"Political choices, wage stagnation and economic uncertainty mean that hundreds of thousands more people are now struggling to make ends meet. This is a very real warning sign that our hard-fought progress is in peril.
"Action to tackle child and pensioner poverty has provided millions of families with better living standards and financial security.
"However, record employment is not leading to lower poverty, changes to benefits and tax credits are reducing incomes and crippling costs are squeezing budgets to breaking point."
