The Brazilian John Kennedy Santos Gurjao, 24, had a violent seizure on the flight from Lisbon to Dublin on Sunday, biting another person before being restrained.

Tragically, after being restrained on board the aircraft, Gurjao passed out and was later declared dead.

And now investigators have revealed the man was travelling with nearly 2lbs of cocaine in his abdomen.

It is still unclear whether the drugs found in the man’s abdomen were the reason for his erratic behaviour, though if the drugs had leaked into his system this could explain what occurred shortly before his death.

A passenger on board the Aer Lingus flight described the moment Gurjao’s behaviour forced them to act:

‘There was a lot of commotion and cabin crew rushed to the back of the plane.

‘The guy had to be restrained [and] after that, it got worse. He was on the ground shaking violently. The noise he was making was something I’ve never heard before. It was like a deep anguish… very, very troubled, very guttural, from deep within him.’

A woman that the man was travelling with to Ireland was arrested on drug trafficking offences.
