After Victoria Weaving Shorrocks underwent a traumatic 15-hour-labour, her and husband Richard welcomed their first son Luke. But rather than the unbridled joy usually experienced by new parents, the pair were devastated to discover that their son had died moments after birth.

Doctors told them there was nothing that could be done for their newborn son, and they were forced to begin processing the thought that their newborn was not going to make it.

...Until 36 minutes later, Luke miraculously began breathing.

Because of the lack of oxygen getting to his brain, baby Luke suffered severe brain damage, and had to stay in hospital for five weeks before being sent home. His parents were trained on how to give him CPR if he should stop breathing again, and they were allowed to take their child back to their house.

Tragically, Luke went back into hospital and died three months later, despite everyone's best efforts to keep him alive.

Richard and Victoria believe that if Luke had been delivered by Caesarean, his life could have been saved. They also added that they were unsure what was normal or not due to it being Victoria's first birth she'd experienced, saying they relied on doctors to tell them what was happening and what to expect.
