Discussing a story that claimed the contraceptive pill is less effective in women weighing more than 72 kilograms (about 11 stone 3lbs), Rachel Smalley said such women were: 'heifers' and a 'bunch of lardos.'

The radio presenter thought her microphone was switched off during an ad break when she made the comments.

Rachel is a presenter on the radio stations early morning show

She's heard saying over the advert. '72kgs? Heifers!' She goes onto discuss how someone who is 5 6 and weighs that much is a 'lardo.'

Smalley has said that she deeply regrets the comments, made this morning, saying: 'They were offensive.'

'I left my microphone on and a conversation meant for off-air, went on-air and the audience only heard one side of that conversation.'

'I'm sorry. It was a genuine mistake.'

Rachel's comments are bound to upset many women in her home country of New Zealand - where the average weight for women is just over 11 stone.
