A young boy abandoned by his parents was only saved when after being breastfed by a pregnant dog, it has emerged.
The unnamed little boy was left in an abandoned mechanic’s workshop in Chile before being discovered on Thursday.
The 2-year-old was malnourished with headline and suffering from skin infections.
But help was at hand in the form of a pregnant dog named Reina.
The dog was allegedly seen suckling the boy as he lay desperate for food and water.
The boy was spotted by a neighbour, Lory Escudero.
She told local media: "Our dog is pregnant and the hungry boy suckled on the dog's teats for milk.
"We're all parents and if you saw what we saw, from my position as a woman, as a mother, it was terrible."
Police told local news that the boy was taken to hospital where he was treated. The infant is now in the care of social workers.
According to police, the boy’s mother visited the hospital but was drunk.
The mother was, however, not arrested.
A spokesperson for Chile’s National Service For Minors said that he was ‘embarrassed’ by the boy’s situation and his suffering from the horrific neglect.
