For hundreds of years, cultures around the world have been obsessed with the idea that we are not alone in the universe.

From stories of alien abductions and cover ups to sci-fi movies, the search for extra-terrestrial life has been an ongoing quest driven by our own fascination with the unknown.

Now it seems we’re edging closer and closer to finding life on Mars. Or perhaps a bit further afield…

Speaking in Washington DC, NASA’s chief scientist Ellen Stofan revealed that she believes we will find alien life forms within our lifetime.

NASA says they won't be finding 'little green men' like in our favourite movies

In fact, to could be in as soon as a few years.

Stofan said: “I believe we are going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth in the next decade and definitive evidence in the next 10 to 20 years.

“We know where to look, we know how to look, and in most cases we have the technology.

“We are not talking about little green men We are talking about little microbes.”

NASA’s Jeffery Newmark then added: “It's definitely not an if, it's a when.”
