According to the Northern Echo newspaper, Margaret Carroll, 60, and Katrina Livingstone, 37, have been left in a critical condition following a blaze at their home after reportedly using a ouija board to contact their dead dog.

The beloved family pet had been killed by Carroll’s husband, who had drowned her in the bath then claimed she had run away.

The crime was only discovered when he cut up the dog’s body and tried to put it down the drain, causing a blockage.

However Carroll's husband, who pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, claimed the dog had died after becoming possessed following a previous Ouija board session.

Neighbour Donna Sowerby has said that she spoke to Katrina on Friday evening, and claims that she told her a Ouija board reading had predicted both her and her mother's deaths.

Then on Saturday morning, a fire broke out at their home in Consett, Durham County, England.

The women were later found in the back garden with injuries unrelated to the fire, and are now critically ill in hospital.

They have both been arrested on suspicion of arson.

A Durham Police spokeswoman said: "Two women aged 60 and 37 were taken to the University Hospital North Durham where they remain in a critical condition and are under arrest on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

"We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."
