Meeks was previously arrested back in 2002 at the age of 18 for alleged gang activity.

He was then arrested in 2009 for Grand Theft and served a two-year jail sentence.

He was arrested last week after officers found an unregistered fire arm in his car.

Public Information Officer Joseph Silva described 30-year-old Meeks 'one of the most violent criminals in the Stockton area'.

'It's been a long term investigation over many weeks and Mr Meek's gang was identified as the most violent and active gang in the area,' he told MailOnline. 'Two of his charges are gang related.’

Meeks- who is married with a son- is thought to have been a member of the notorious Crips gang in California.

The girlfriend of Meeks’ co-defendant Terry Bailey told the MailOnline: ‘I cannot deny they were members and they call each other brothers but they have given all that up.’

Referring to the attention Meeks’ mug shot has been receiving online, she said: ‘This has all been ridiculous. People think this is funny but the families are hurting.’
