Mum-of-three Rebecca Dunbar was queueing up with her children to see Father Christmas when her baby son started crying.

She began breastfeeding her one-year-old and, when she reached the front of the queue, thought it would make for a funny photo if she asked Santa for a photo.

Both the photographer and St Nick were happy for the shot to be taken, so she posed for her own special snapshot with the big man in red.

"Honestly, we were just in line and my little guy, who has the patience of nothing, decided he was hungry in about two seconds," she told Global News.

"He would have just screamed the entire time so I started nursing him. And we were next in line."

However, when she later shared the photograph on Facebook in a bid to normalise breastfeeding, Rebecca could never have expected the backlash.

One woman wrote scathingly: "What a crock. Mothers know full well that babies get hungry and require feeding every couple of hours.

“She could have found a quiet spot… instead, she decided to act like an exhibitionist.”

Others slammed Rebecca as ‘trashy’ and ‘attention seeking’, while some criticised her for putting Santa in a difficult position.

“Obviously this self-centred crybaby doesn’t give a thought to how the poor gentleman playing Santa must feel - no, she and her self-important agenda come first," fumed one.

“Hope your 15 seconds of fame was worth it, you selfish cow.”

Rebecca has hit back at critics, insisting the shot is less revealing than photos of ‘scantily clad’ women, and wishes breastfeeding was ‘more acceptable in all ways’.

She has since set her account to private, in a bid to stop the negative comments flooding in.
