The 6-year-old girl, who weighs 60 pounds, was sent home from school with a note telling her mother to take her to the doctors - despite her being perfectly healthy.
Mother Laura Cacdac was understandably shocked by the letter, adding that her daughter began asking questions about why she had received it when other children hadn’t.
‘Her first question to me was “do they think I’m fat? Is there something wrong with me?”’
The little girl, Charley, then heartbreakingly added: ‘Because if I was fat, it would make me sad and kind of feel bad, like I was kind of different than everybody else.’
A spokesperson for the school in Palm Beach, Florida, said that the letter was not intended to be stigmatising, and that they send them purely to make recommendations to parents.
However, Ms Cacdac argues something like this could stay with her daughter for life - causing potentially huge amounts of damage.
Do you think the school did the right thing?
