A six-year-old has completed a half-marathon, becoming the youngest person to ever do so. And she couldn't be happier about it!
Keelan Glass has always loved running. When she was four, she was running in 5K races. By the age of five, she'd moved onto 10Ks. And now, at the tender age of six, she's finally conquered her first half marathon, finishing the 13.1-mile Showdown Half Marathon in just 2:46.31.
The mini Texan athlete comes from a family of runners. Both her parents are triathletes who have been training for their races with their daughter in a stroller, so it makes sense that she's become a fan of running too.
However, while her mum and dad were happy to let her run, they made sure to take all the necessary precautions first; in fact, before taking part in the half-marathon, Keelan's parents consulted with an orthopedist to make sure that it was safe for her to run.
And, while Keelan would like to complete her first full marathon by the age of 10, her mother (who made sure she ran beside her little girl - and that she took regular breaks) thinks her daughter will have to wait a bit longer.
"Just because she could, I’m not sure that’s a good reason to. Mom would have to do a lot more research before that happens."
Good work, Mum!
It's also worth pointing out that Keelan, as well as bagging herself a medal and a brand-new world record, has also raised $2,855 for the Pregnancy Resource Centre in Abilene, Texas. What a sport!
